How to work for Indian Railways?

Introduction:- To get a job in Indian Railways one needs to appear for competitive examination conducted by the Railways Recruitment Board. Popularly known as RRB conducts Technical and Non Technical examinations separately. 

Railways recruit Gazetted posts in Group A and B.

In Group C and D category non gazetted posts are notified.

Types of Jobs:-

Posts like clerks,Station Master,Ticket Collector etc comes under Non-Technical Group C posts.

Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Social Engineers etc will come under Technical Cadre, Group C posts.
 
The posts like Track man, Helper, Asst Points man, Gunman, Peon etc comes under Group D posts.
 
RRB is the only recruitment agency for all Zonal Railways.
 
Eligibility :- 
 
Qualification:- For Non Technical category any graduate is eligible.
                       For Technical category RRB will notify the eligible criteria in the notifications.
Age:- Minimum 18 years, Maximum 30 years. For SC, ST candidates maximum age limit be relaxed by 5 years and 3 years for OBC candidates.
 
Selection Procedure:- A written examination will be conducted with multiple choice objective type questions with negative marking.    
         The syllabus for the written examination generally depends with the qualification prescribed for the post.
 
RRB issues employment notifications periodically for various posts required to be filled by railways in National, Local news papers. The entire process of examination will be completed in about 10-12 months. Results of competitive examination will be generally be published in 30-60 days from date of examination.
          woman candidates can apply for all the posts advertised by the Railway 
Recruitment Board.
           RRBs are neither offering any type of coaching nor prescribing any books or guides for the examinations being conducted by them.
 
There are 21 regional Railway Recruitment Boards. These RRBs recruit candidates to work in the respective zones.
The controlling authority of all these RRBs is Ministry of Railway Recruitment Control Board, Government of India.  
In January 1985 Railway Service Commission has been renamed as Railway Recruitment Boards. Presently 21 RRBs functioning.
 
The purpose and objective of establishing 21 Railway Recruitment Boards are 
 
1. To rationalize the work load on RRBs.
2. To expedite selection process.
3. To bring the recruitment agencies nearer to the candidates in the far flying areas and interior sides.
4. To conduct recruitment on all India basis.
